VHA HPO seeking Director Supportive Services for Veterans Families

Summary

The Health System Specialist – Director, Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program position is located in VHA’s Homeless Program Office (HPO) under the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary for Health for Clinical Services, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Washington, DC. The mission of this position is to advance the quality of care for homeless Veterans.

Duties

  • Develops and implements Program-wide policies, regulations and plans for VA’s SSVF Program associated with the provision of outreach and case management services, including VA benefits and other public benefits, which include health care, daily living services, financial planning, transportation, fiduciary and payee services, legal assistance, child care, housing counseling and temporary financial assistance.
  • Acts as VA’s subject matter expert on SSVF and represents VHA providing technical assistance to Congress on proposed legislation and responding to inquiries from members of Congress regarding SSVF (both orally and in writing).
  • Prepares legislative proposals for consideration by Congress to expand or enhance the Program’s statutory authorization to provide services. Identifies impediments, overlaps or negative incentives in existing legislation or regulation, acting to have them modified or deleted.
  • Represents VA in coordinating and communicating with other federal agencies regarding the role of SSVF in ending Veteran homelessness. Through collaboration with national, state, and community partners, the incumbent promotes VA/community partnerships to establish and enhance SSVF Program initiatives designed to help Veterans return to self-sufficiency and independent living. Collaborates with key stakeholders, including the Strategic Decision Coordination Team (HUD, USICH, and VA), to improve services to homeless Veterans.
