The Chief Health Informatics Officer (CHIO) provides leadership in designated projects and cross-coverage with other informaticists in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The volume and complexity of responsibilities are significant and constantly evolving.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintains oversight of informatics practice.
  • Establishes effective clinical and administrative systems.
  • Designs useful decision support systems.
  • Manages and delivers educational experiences while enhancing lifelong learning, and supporting healthcare research.
  • Fosters leadership and professionalism by building, supporting, and creating alignments for informatics best practices, and lead health informatics initiatives and innovation through collaboration and stakeholder engagement across and beyond the enterprise.
  • Program responsibilities include program development, project implementation, budget, logistics, ongoing monitoring and analytics, communication, collaboration, and education.
