“The physician in this role will serve as the VISN 10 medical leader in the development, implementation, and communication of clinical informatics processes and tools to facilitate and support improvement of quality care for individual patients and populations of patients. The VISN 10 Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) is the key person to assure the competency of the health informatics workforce at all locations of care in the VISN. This position is located in the VISN 10 Office which provides direction and oversight to eleven facilities and 84 community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) in the Network. This position establishes a formal informatics leadership presence in the field at the medical center and VISN level.
Responsibilities:
- “Provides leadership and direction to assigned functions of the service line including Health Informatics personnel, nursing informaticians, information system project managers, and automated data processing and analytics staff.
- Demonstrates a high level of analytical ability, critical decision-making skills, and an extensive knowledge of healthcare issues, with a focus on the science of integrating healthcare, technology, and clinical data, formally known as clinical or health informatics.
- Leads multi-disciplinary clinical and technical teams in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of clinical information systems and assumes primary responsibility for clinical system design, implementation, and optimization.
- Manages the highest quality of health informatics and is responsible for providing oversight, coordination, and leadership in developing and managing the Network programs for health informatics and information management.
- Collaborates with clinical and support service lines to facilitate and manage the integration of an electronic health record. This requires outstanding clinical, technical, and leadership skills.
- May directly supervise others working in Clinical Informatics, monitoring subordinates’ progress and performance and providing guidance and expertise in informatics.
- Performs effectively in a complex multi-facility network, affiliated with high-ranking medical schools.
- Represents VISN 10 on national committees and task forces and will ensure that the information and technology needs of VISN 10 are considered at the national level.”
