VA issues RFI for Food Operations and Nutrition Care Management System

George E. Wahlen, (Salt Lake City) Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Nutrition and Food Services (NFS) requires a computer-based food management program to modernize patient food service systems. The need is for an off-the-shelf food management system which is continuously maintained and updated as needed to support current healthcare food service practices.

Requirements the system include but are not limited to;

Software and hardware must be compatible with Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA)

Admission, discharge, transfer, and diet order information needs to be able to transfer, in real-time, from VISTA to the new system.

Have a unidirectional interface enabling secure transfer of information from VISTA to the new system without the risk of overwriting data, security breaches or data corruption in the VISTA system.

Integrate the Pyxis MedStation system with Pyxis Connect.
