VA seeking Chief Health Informatics Officer (CHIO)

“The Chief Health Informatics Officer (CHIO) is a physician who provides leadership in planning, direction, and support of an integrated program for health care informatics at the Phoenix VA Health Care System, Phoenix, AZ. The CHIO has primary responsibility for ensuring clinical staff have the appropriate training and support to effectively utilize the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and other clinical applications that support healthcare delivery for patients and caregivers.”

Responsibilities:

  • Optimize effectiveness, quality, and safety of patient care delivery and systems management in support of the VHA mission and goals. The CHIO will work as an integral member of the facility senior leadership and will have a strong partnership with all facility leaders, managers and staff.
  • Assist in the development of strategic plans for clinical and administrative information systems and will foster relationships with internal staff as well as local and national information technology professionals in the VA Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) and the vendor community policies, and nominate incentive awards in all matters concerning Performance and Improvement staff members under the supervision of the Service administration.
  • Participate on committees, task forces, and other groups at the Medical Center and affiliates to assist in policy changes.
  • Identify long and short-range needs to formulate proposals for executive level management consideration.
  • Develop a team of innovative, highly motivated individuals who are continuously striving for excellence in patient care and customer service.
