G2X TAKE: Having just launched a Data-Standard Integration Initiative to Advance Healthcare Interoperability, next Monday’s event that includes VA Deputy CMIO, Jonathan Nebeker; CMS Medical Director supporting PQRS, Daniel Green; and ONC’s Principal Deputy National Coordinator, Vindell Washington, amongst others should be well attended. Other notable speakers from government include ONC Clinical Quality Leader, Julia Skapik, and FDA’s Terrie Reed.
2016 Defense Health Information Technology Symposium
WHEN: Tuesday, August 2, 2016 through Thursday, August 4, 2016
WHERE: Caribe Royale Convention Center in Orlando, Florida
G2X TAKE: Organized and run by the Defense Health Agency/MHS, this event has become one of the few must attend events for anyone covering Military Health. The support and attendance by Military Health leadership combined with the opportunity to connect with partner organizations from across industry in an informal setting makes this well worth the price of admission and time spent.
Defense Health Information Technology Symposium Happy Hour
WHEN: Tuesday, August 1, 6:00 – 9:00PM
WHERE: The Pub, 9101 International Drtive #1003 Orlando, FL
G2X TAKE: Arriving early for the Defense Health IT Symposium (DHITs)? Plan to join us for a Happy Hour and networking event to raise money for the Fisher House Foundation. Donate at the event or online above. All proceeds will go to serve the Fisher House Foundation, which provides free or low cost lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military medical centers.
Convergence 2016: Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
WHEN: Thursday, August 4, 2016
WHERE: Baltimore, MD
G2X TAKE: Only two weeks away, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is planning its second annual IT Conference. This event was very well attended last year and with SPARC now awarded, you can expect a lot of interest. Sponsorship opportunities are available and they sold out last year. Don’t delay if this is a focus for you.
Standards and Prevention of Health IT Risks
WHEN: Wednesday, September 7, 2016, 9:00AM – 4:45PM
WHERE: NIST, Red Auditorium, 100 Bureau Dr, Gaithersburg, MD
G2X TAKE: With an array of Clinical informatics and Health IT leaders from HHS, AHRQ, FDA, CDC and the Veterans Health Administration scheduled to speak, this is close to a must attend event for those focused on Health IT standards development process related to risk prevention and mitigation. Registration needs to be complete by August 31st.
HHS Industry Day – Opportunity at FDA, CDC, CMS and HHS
WHEN: Thursday, September 8, 2016, 7:30AM – 12:00PM
WHERE: Sheraton Tysons Corner, 8661 Leesburg Pike, Tysons, VA
G2X TAKE: This September event is worth evaluating now as one to get on the calendar. The price is a bit steep when compared to other events, but the topic is spot on. If anyone has been to this event in the past, please provide feedback so that others can benefit.
HIMSS NCA Emergency Strikes – Is your Health System Ready?
WHEN: Thursday, September 15, 2016, 5:30-8:00PM
WHERE: Key Bridge Marriott, 1401 Lee Highway, Arlington, Virginia 22209
G2X TAKE: Irrespective of the lineup, the National Capital Area chapter for HIMSS regularly draws in top Federal Health IT leaders from across industry and government. The networking alone makes this worth the trip, though this group does a great job ensuring the topic areas are both timely and built around key programs and initiatives.

WHERE: Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner, 1700 Tysons Boulevard, McLean, VA
G2X TAKE: With the VA Undersecretary of Health, David Shulkin, and the VA CIO, Laverne Council (pending conformation) expected to headline this event, the planning for this September event is off to a good start, though with the AFCEA Health IT day only two weeks later, many firms will need to pick and choose where to spend both their time and sponsorship dollars.
