VA seeking Podiatrist – Chief Health Informatics Officer

The Central Texas VA Health Care System in Temple, TX is seeking a Chief Health Informatics Officer position. The Chief Health Informatics Officer provides leadership, consultation, and coordination for the transformation of clinical care processes and clinical support services to achieve Veteran-driven care across the continuum. He/she is responsible for leadership on informatics teams and initiatives, representing the needs and requirements of clinicians.

Duties:

  • Clinical work will be expected.
  • Responsible for leadership on informatics teams and initiatives, representing the needs and requirements of clinicians.
  • Takes ownership of clinical information technology initiatives and lead teams to ensure optimal outcomes and adoption of new processes within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
  • Provides advanced and secure enterprise data systems, analytic and measurement solutions, decision support, and business intelligence that facilitate evidence based decisions for individual Veterans and their families, client populations, clinicians, and those managing healthcare delivery systems.
  • Consults and works collaboratively with VHA Program Offices, Veterans Integrated Services Networks, facility leadership teams, nurse executives, professional organizations, congressional offices, consumer groups and stakeholders to address complex healthcare delivery and informatics practice issues at a national level.
  • Represents the VHA at national, regional, and federal healthcare organizations or meetings for the purpose of defining, evaluating and/or consultation on national healthcare, research, and analytics/informatics policy.
  • Responsible for analyzing issues and developing national informatics strategies to support the mission and strategic goals of VA and facilitates action plans related to national VHA informatics strategic goals.
  • Provides recommendations to executive leadership for changes in health informatics practice based upon evaluation data and/or research.
  • Implements activities to enhance the quality of informatics practice.
  • Maintains a systems perspective that encompasses the entire organization.
  • Anticipates and plans for changes in economic and business processes.
  • Integrates knowledge from other informatics disciplines to improve client care, administration, education and/or research.
  • Participates in top level decisions and policy design which impact clinical or administrative information management.
  • Disseminates new knowledge by informing colleagues of new developments and applications in health informatics.
  • Forecasts knowledge needs for the changes this will influence in the organization.
  • Exerts leadership of interprofessional teams to provide strategic direction.
  • Contributes to informatics education of students, peers, and colleagues.
  • Evaluates informatics competencies required for specific role/functions for the informaticist, administrator, and others.
  • Coordinates the development of theory-based curricular models for informatics.
  • Develops innovative and analytic techniques for scientific inquiry in informatics.
  • Coordinates basic science research to support the theoretical development of the informatics specialty (e.g., decision-making, human computer interaction, taxonomy development, etc.).
  • Participates in the evaluation of the performance and impact of information management technologies on organizational efficiency.
  • Provides recommendations for policy and procedures to improve the quality of informatics practice in VA.
  • Applies the specialized combination of principles and practices of health care delivery with informatics to support VA’s health care delivery system.
