“The Secretary of Veterans Affairs announces the following Executive appointments: Dr. Gerard R. Cox, selected for the Title 38 position of Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Quality and Patient Safety, Under Secretary for Health, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Washington, DC. Dr. Cox currently serves as Deputy Under Secretary for Health for Organizational Excellence, VHA, Washington, DC.”
In noting the appointment Cox said: “I am deeply honored to have been appointed to a new position on the executive leadership team of the Veterans Health Administration. It’s not really a promotion but rather a new title (VA now has “Assistant” Under Secretaries rather than “Deputy” Under Secretaries to comply with statute) and a realignment of responsibilities as the VHA Central Office reorganizes. Nonetheless I am grateful to be able to continue serving the health care needs of those who have worn the uniform of our nation.”
