Keeping an Eye to the Future with Joyce Hunter

With an impressive background in IT, Joyce Hunter works in cybersecurity as well as focusing on helping the youth prepare for a future in technology.

Joyce Hunter is a strategic-doer and a philanthropreneur. She was appointed by President Barack Obama to the position of Deputy Chief Information Officer for Policy and Planning at the Department of Agriculture (2013-2017) and was the Acting Chief Information Officer from March 2016 to July 2016. In addition to policy and technology planning, Ms. Hunter is the creator of the Data Science Camp Inc. STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Agriculture/Athletics and Math) summer camp for underserved and underrepresented youth, which is in its 10th year of operation. She is the Advisory Board Chair for CyberAg, providing cybersecurity outreach, awareness, education and access to resources for the agriculture and food supply chain and the Executive Director of the Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology (ICIT), a nonprofit Think Tank, providing objective, nonpartisan research, advisory, and education to legislative, commercial, and public-sector cybersecurity and critical infrastructure stakeholders.

Ms. Hunter earned a BA from Villanova University and an MBA in Marketing from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business. She recently received her certificate as a Qualified Technical Expert (QTE) from the Digital Directors Network, named one of the Top 50 Women in Maryland by 2023 Women We Admire, was a 2021 Leading for Impact Award Winner and named by Security Magazine one of the most Influential People in Security for 2020. Ms. Hunter is on the Dean’s Advisory Council for Villanova University, Bowie State University, a chapter contributor to The Handbook of Federal Government Leadership and Administration: Transforming, Performing and Innovating in a Complex World (Routledge 2017) and the creator of the recently published ICIT publication “Securing the Nation’s Critical Infrastuctures: A Guide for the 2021 – 2025 Administration” (CRC Press 2022).
