VHA seeking Deputy Director – Scientific Operations, Clinical Research

Summary

This position is in The Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) Veterans Health Administration (VHA), and is based in Palo Alto, CA. The Cooperative Studies Program (CSP) is a VHA Office of Research & Development (ORD) supported national clinical investigation program that is comprised of a network of centers and investigators. As a major division of the ORD Clinical Science Research and Development Service (CSR&D), CSP maintains a diverse portfolio of clinical research studies.

Primary Purpose. The primary purpose of the position is to facilitate, direct and coordinate scientific operational activities and programs related to the day-to-day operations of the Center’s Data Management, Informatics and Quality Assurance functional sections and study teams as they design, conduct, and manage studies assigned to the CSPCC. The Deputy Director will supervise 2 Associate Center Directors, their staff and Informatics.

Oversees CSP Coordinating Center Operations 45 Percent

  • Oversees the conduct and assesses center activities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, consistent and accurate documentation, and reporting, and to identify deficiencies or opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate with the CSPCC Director, Administrative Officer, and other key stakeholders, to jointly ensure fiduciary accountability for center funds including overseeing the management of the center budget and project funding, ensuring that appropriate internal control systems are in place and preparing budget recommendations.
  • Serves as supervisor to key CSP Center personnel to include Informatics, the ACD of Data Management and the SCD of Quality Assurance and ensures that appropriate levels of resources/staff are assigned to CSP Center activities…

Performs Research Liaison Activities 20 Percent

  • Represents CSP in communications and/or meetings with senior management within and outside VA, non-government experts, and the public, and serves as a liaison to other federal agencies and internal BA committees.
  • Establishes working relationships with other agencies within and outside the Department, professional societies, groups, and individuals to share information on developments and technology in the scientific, technical, and administrative fields related to CSP research and development…
