“BACKGROUND
In 2020 the Division of Information Technology Management (DITM) in the CFSAN Office of Management began implementation of a cloud-based Data Warehouse. This effort focuses on centralizing the Center’s many disparate data sources into one platform and enabling user access to the data via analytics and business intelligence tools.
The requirements outlined here build upon this previous work to improve user understanding of data available within the Data Warehouse. The Enterprise Data Catalog tool will enable the Center to automatically scan and index metadata, discover and profile data, and provide lineage across many disparate data sets, thereby improving Center data user understanding of and confidence in the data available via the Warehouse. The Data Catalog will also support objectives to strengthen the data management and governance posture of the Center.one machine or virtual machine accessible to a maximum one concurrent user from one geographic location, training, and one-year service and support.
- SCOPE
FDA intends to procure one (1) Enterprise Data Catalog Software or the equivalent to include traing and support.
- REQUIREMENTS
The Contractor shall provide the following that meets the delineated salient functional characteristics:
- The Enterprise Data Catalog Software or the equivalent salient characteristics shall consist of the following:
- Allows universal metadata connectivity to extract metadata from any type of data source, to include data warehouses, databases, BI tools, applications, Data Modeling tools, and file systems
- Supports minimum of 50 metadata resources per license
- Provides search or query-able interface of all assets
- Ability to integrate with a variety of data preparation and analytics tools including SAS, Tableau, and ThoughtSpot
- Supports cataloging of information about all assets; including “raw” data assets as well as those that have been transformed
- Supports automated identification and classification of key domains and entities
- Supports “crowd sourced” curation of data sets by allowing data owners and subject matter experts to certify, rate, follow, and comment on data sets
- Supports compliance with data protection requirements, including protection of personally identifiable information (PII), commercial confidential information (CCI), and trade secret information Supports data lineage analysis
- Supports data relationship discovery analysis
- Enables data profiling and data quality evaluations
- “Jump Start” or “Quick Start” professional services offered to support DITM in rolling out data catalog and establishing baseline processes and organization.
