CDC Sources Sought: Development of a Mobile Facial Scanning Application to Predict Respirator Fit

Notice ID: HCCLG-2021-SR-56601

The goal of the project is to develop a mobile app for Apple iPhone and Apple tablets to scan users’ faces and then provide a prediction of a good fitting respirator based on the facial dimensions computed from the app. This contract is for the development of a prototype app that will later be validated through additional research outside of this contract. The app shall be developed by (6 months from date of Award). The app will ultimately provide the user a recommendation for a respirator that has a high probability of fitting, thus making the overall fit testing process less cumbersome. This app could also provide the ability to scan faces more frequently than the annual fit test requirements, which means that the app could inform a user when their facial shape or profile changes and may require another fit test. The app is not a substitute for an OSHA required fit test, however, the ability of the app to predict good fitting respirators before doing an actual fit test will be a cost-saving benefit to respirator programs.
