The goals of NSCAW are to: (1) describe the characteristics, functioning, and well-being of children and families who come into contact with the child welfare system, (2) examine child and family service needs and receipt, and (3) describe the child welfare system and the experience of children and families involved in the system. The information collection across NSCAW cohorts allows for the assessment changes in the characteristics of children and families in the system following the introduction of a number of significant policy and practice changes. NSCAW I and NSCAW II are archived at the National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect.
This purpose of this contract is to conduct preliminary activities to support future data collection for NSCAW. This contract will provide the technical and substantive expertise required to carry out the initial planning work for future data collection carried out as part of NSCAW. This contract seeks to carry out additional activities necessary to (1) develop design option(s) to be considered for future data collection for NSCAW, (2) conduct preliminary data collection, and (3) disseminate findings from preliminary data collection and/or secondary analysis of prior cohorts of NSCAW data.
Activities include, but are not limited to:
- Development of design option(s);
- Engagement with stakeholders and experts;
- Design and execution of preliminary data collection plan;
- Data collection, data entry, cleaning, and analysis;
- Implementation of special topic activities;
- Development of public facing products including briefs, spotlights, and/or technical slide decks;
- Data security and privacy;
- Data archiving;
- Dissemination; and
- Transfer of materials (as needed).
This contract aims to complement and build from ACF’s existing portfolio of projects to address research questions and priorities related the well-being of children and families involved with the child welfare system, as well as their service needs and utilization.
