“… Title: NIAID Data Ecosystem Framework (NDEF)
The objective of this project is to establish and maintain a federated data ecosystem for NIAID. In this ecosystem, the data stewards/owners of individual sources of data will continue to maintain control of data storage, security and management while allowing the ecosystem users to access and analyze the data upon request. As such, this ecosystem is not a Commons nor is it a Data Management Center (DMC) for data storage and harmonization. This federated approach is expected to facilitate discovery, as well as the long-term sustainability for data sharing and analysis. The Data Ecosystem Framework (DEF) will be an open-source technical gateway that will provide a secure environment where users will be able to find, access, query, and analyze the data from select NIAID repositories, knowledgebases, and other relevant resources. Users will be provided training and documentation on understanding and using the DEF. Ecosystem usage metrics tracked will enable NIAID to determine and continue to support the high-value digital assets.
This gateway should be a web accessible system which provides an interface to allow users to browse, access and analyze data from various NIAID resources. The following describes increasingly complex levels of finding, accessing and analyzing data on the system.
- Capability to discover NIAID data sets
- Capability to perform analysis on available NIAID data sets
- Capability to combine user data with NIAID data and perform analysis
- Capability to aggregate multiple harmonized NIAID data sets and perform analysis across these data…”
