CDC NCIRD awards FluLIMS Ecosystem Informatics DME Support task to J Michael Consulting (JMC)

Small business JMichael Consulting (JMC) beat out two other bidders to be awarded a 3-year IT Professional Services contract with CDC. The contract was awarded using IT-70.

Awardee Name: J MICHAEL CONSULTING, LLC
Contract Duration: 36 months
Total Contract Value: $4,613,714.00
Funding Agency: CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION
Number of Bidders: 3

“J Michael Consulting has been awarded the CDC Task Order 75D30119F06468 to provide informatics support the ongoing development, modernization and enhancement of the FluLIMS Ecoystem. JMC will maintain subcontracts with General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), Yahara Software, and Novolab Solutions (hereafter the JMC Team) to bring an exclusive set of expertise and experience to provide the FluLIMS Support Services outlined in this Task order.”

“Our diverse and experienced team is our greatest strength.

The JMC Team will support the Influenza Division in meeting these five key objectives:

  • Provide advanced analytical tools and processes to facilitate virus and sera characterization and reporting efforts
  • Coordinate response efforts and surveillance activities to support pre-pandemic preparedness
  • Improve the testing performance and capabilities of surveillance laboratory partners
  • Enhance laboratory safety and quality assurance activities
  • Enhance methods to rapidly obtain, integrate, analyze and disseminate surveillance”

“J Michael Consulting (JMC) is excited to work with our partners GDIT, Yahara Software, and NovoLab Solutions to enhance and evolve the CDC FluLIMS Ecosystem. This Ecosystem provides automated support of increasingly more complex laboratory data streams and supports the Influenza Division’s mission to provide scientific and programmatic leadership for the diagnosis, prevention, and control of influenza domestically and internationally.” said Jon Lipsky, CEO of J Michael Consulting (www.jmichael-consulting.com).”

“The influenza virus causes significant morbidity and mortality across the globe every year. The CDC Influenza Division conducts surveillance on circulating strains to recommend the components of the yearly influenza vaccine. In addition to seasonal influenza which is generally caused by antigenic drift within the viral genome, the CDC also monitors for an antigenic shift in the virus, which may spark another global influenza pandemic. The challenges associated with detection of novel viruses and vaccine strain recommendation continue to grow as our need for more rapid results and predictive analytics drive this mission. The problem that CDC faces is the need to continue to evolve the science, processes and tools to keep up with the influenza detection and vaccination needs of our increasingly global and mobile population. However, as the science has evolved, commercial information management systems have not kept pace. Effective testing for influenza is more than simple sample tracking and reporting. It involves both conventional antigenic characterization methods and the newest technologies like next generation sequencing (NGS). The JMC Team has helped conceive, design, develop and implement a system of systems, the FluLIMS Ecosystem and will continue to support this system under the new task order.”
