NORC at the University of Chicago, an objective and non-partisan research organization with more than 75 years of leadership in data collection, program evaluation, data analysis, and information dissemination, seeks a Vice President in the Public Health Research Department. The new Vice President will join the department’s leadership team in developing and implementing a strategy to further expand our portfolio of work in evaluation, technical assistance, and implementation science, and expand the management structure in our Atlanta, GA office. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in public health policy and survey data collection, experience leading project teams and mentoring staff, and a track record of improving organizational infrastructure. This is a strategic role that will further develop a world-class public health research function at one of the nation’s most respected research institutions, significantly impacting NORC’s success and service to our clients.
The Public Health Research team conducts work on a variety of public health topics including chronic disease prevention and health promotion, rural health, health disparities, health care delivery, and social determinants of health. Our team includes prominent health policy experts, nationally recognized public health researchers with general and specialized expertise in areas such as rural health and tribal issues, skilled methodologists, and leaders in the field of survey design and implementation. Our staff also brings expertise in populations of special interest and the intersection of public health and health care delivery. We offer broad, multidisciplinary experiences spanning public health, epidemiology, statistics, policy, developmental psychology, economics, sociology, social work, and political science.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborate with the Senior Vice President and other Vice Presidents to develop and implement a strategy to strengthen and grow the department’s portfolio of work in program evaluation and prevention projects for federal health clients. Foster an environment that promotes professional growth of Public Health staff. Support a cohesive, team-oriented culture across a geographically dispersed staff and promote communication and integration among all members. Lead business development efforts with the federal government, with particular emphasis on expanded portfolio of work for CDC as well as other agencies prioritizing public health. Develop and maintain client relationships with the federal, non-profit, academic, and foundation sectors. Develop and maintain key partnerships with other research organizations and research leaders that will support and advance the success of the Public Health department.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Master’s degree in public health, psychology, social sciences, or another relevant discipline is required, doctorate preferred. At least 10 years of directly applicable work experience in a nonprofit organization, research organization or government agency is required. Demonstrated evidence of building federal portfolio of work in public health. A track record for building, developing, managing and retaining a team of highly capable research professionals. Recognition as an expert in a content area in public health, as evidenced by supporting publications and presentations. Understanding of qualitative and quantitative methodologies as well as developments in data science. Expertise in managing large scale, complex research projects, or other similar accomplishments.
