EHR Intelligence: McKesson Wins $400M DoD Imaging Health IT System Contract

“The Department of Defense (DoD) recently awarded a $400 million contract to McKesson Technologies for a digital imaging network picture archiving and communications health IT system.”

“McKesson will likely supply and maintain the system — called DIN-PACS IV — until December 15, 2027. Military branches and federal civilian agencies including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps will benefit from the new system…”

“This newest imaging network health IT system is the fifth iteration of DIN-PACS…an open system network of digital devices designed to facilitate the effective acquisition, transmission, display, and management of diagnostic imaging studies to support business process changes within the Military Health System (MHS)…”

“Ensuring interoperability between the imaging system and other DoD health IT systems will be a top priority for McKesson. Specifically, DIN-PACS IV will be required to support the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) initiative for digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) and HL7 standards use…”
