VHA seeking Director of Terminology

Summary

This position is located in Knowledge Based Systems (KBS) within the Clinical Informatics and Data Management Office (CIDMO) of the Office of Health Informatics (OHI). The incumbent leads a nationally prominent team to apply expertise to activities including detailed analysis, mapping, modeling and knowledge representation on projects ranging from new development to maintenance and consultations in VistA/CPRS, Cerner, health information exchange and other VA Health Information Technologies.

Duties

  • Applies the specialized combination of principles and practices of health care delivery with informatics to support the VHA health care delivery system.
  • Identifies, analyzes and evaluates the direction and significance of national and international trends and developments occurring in Health Informatics to advise the Director KBS and others on the latest advancements and changing needs.
  • Works cooperatively with VA partners and external partners to provide innovation environments, best practices and evaluation of innovation discoveries for promotion for the enterprise.
  • Represents the interests of KBS, CIDMO, OHI, VHA, and VA in interfacing with other VA and VHA offices, departments, agencies, organizations, and groups, both public and private, in various interagency collaborations, in matters where medical informatics expertise is required.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert (SME) available for consultation with senior executives, managers, project teams and others to ensure that clinical practice and informatics issues are considered in all collaborative ventures.
  • Directs informatics research, publication and participation in professional and academic meetings.
  • Maintains academic standing where required by affiliating department.
  • Provides Terminology thought leadership within VA, across the Federal Government, and for the US as a whole.
