Duties
The Deputy Director must provide continual attention to the duties and responsibilities that are described under the following functional categorizations:
Budget and Fiscal Management:
Develops the need for and maintains awareness of available resources and makes recommendations to VISN and Medical Center management regarding needs, distribution or redistribution of these resources.
Direction/Long Range Planning:
The Deputy Director develops implements, improves and coordinates internal review systems to ensure that both clinical and administrative activities follow the standards issued by various accrediting and regulator groups and higher agency authorities, i.e., VACO, VISN, and inspector General reviews.
Human Resource Management:
The Deputy Director has broad, extensive knowledge of government-wide, VA, and VHA personnel management requirements and of the contributions and needs of widely diverse individuals and employee groups.
Administrative Health Services Coordination:
The Deputy Director serves as the focal point on coordination between direct and allied medical care, and administrative functions of the VASNHCS Management Team.
Community/Public Relations:
The Deputy Director establishes and maintains good relations with wide variety of individuals and groups to effectively disseminate information to Veterans, volunteers, staff, and members of the media, the public, local, state, and federal official, community groups, and other stakeholders in ways that most accurately and effectively present the medical center’s mission of caring for Veterans.
Systematic Internal Review:
The Deputy Director plays a central role in developing and coordinating internal review systems to assure that both clinical and administrative activities follow standards issued by various accrediting and regulatory groups, and higher agency authorities.
