NIH NLM Sources Sought: Streamline Management of and Access to Full-Text Content

The overall purpose of this project is to investigate and, if determined desirable and feasible, provide planning and recommend application architecture design for a solution to streamline management of and users’ access to NLM’s full-text non-Journal/book content. The effort advances goal 1.4 of the NLM Strategic Plan. The project is divided into two phases, with this task order focusing on phase 1. Currently, the main methods of managing and providing full-text access to digital book content are via the NLM Bookshelf and NLM Digital Collections. NLM Digital Collections preserves and provides access to distinctive and unique as well as modern digital content in the NLM collection, including texts, images, photographs, films, and archival materials.

The objectives of this task are to: ü audit and analyze users and functions of NLM Bookshelf; ü audit and analyze users and functions of NLM Digital Collections; ü compare findings of Bookshelf audit and analysis with results of NLM Digital Collections audit and analysis; ü identify unique requirements of each system that are not offered in the other; and ü develop recommendations for content management, backend management, and seamless discovery for users, not limited by the existing technology.
