VA OIT seeks Director of Operations

Summary

The Director of Operations is located in the Office of Information and Technology, Development, Security and Operations (DSO), End User Operations, District Operations. The purpose of the position is to provide leadership and resource management (finance, human, and acquisition), leading the development and implementation strategy required to manage IT end user operations for a group of areas within an OIT End User Operations District.

Duties

This position is primarily aligned to the following NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Framework work roles:

  • 801 – Program Manager
  • 805 – IT Program Auditor

Major Duties:

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations, services, maintenance and security for all customers within a group of areas within a District.
  • Directs the operations and maintenance of VA IT functions and develops specific IT operations policies and approaches for computing and information technology within their areas.
  • Provides leadership, planning, and management for all information technology strategy, development, and implementation in their assigned areas.
  • Identifies business opportunities and develops systematic short- and long-term action plans incorporating identification of how IT services will meet strategic objectives within their areas.
  • Functions as incident and problem manager for all major incidents within their areas and helps develop root cause analysis of system and process failures.
  • Enforces strict adherence to VA’s standards, architectures and change control, including version and release management, governance and strategic planning, and SLA compliance.
  • Manages assigned budget, develops and maintains the annual budget development process, prepares cost estimates and budget recommendations, monitors and controls expenditures, and allocates IT service costs to align spending with strategic objectives and improve cost transparency in their assigned areas.
