CDC seeks Director, Division of Health Informatics and Surveillance

“As the Director, Division of Health Informatics and Surveillance the incumbent will: 

  • Plans, develops and directs a professional staff engaged in the science and practice of public health surveillance and informatics. 
  • Develop program goals and objectives consistent with the program goals and objectives of higher organizational units. 
  • Advances public health program objectives through application of sound planning concepts and practices and recommends appropriate changes in all aspects of Division’s program direction. 
  • Conducts periodic evaluations of the Division’s program accomplishments to ensure progress in meeting goals and objectives, identifies problems and issues, and devises solutions. 
  • Advises, plans and coordinates methods development and applications projects in support of major agency surveillance programs. 
  • Establishes measures of success/effectiveness of Division’s surveillance and informatics activities and provides guidance to CDC programs and external stakeholders on applying these measures. 
  • Provides scientific leadership in public health informatics, including identifying new developments in informatics and technology. 
  • Determines needs for components that can be utilized across multiple informatics solutions. Manage national surveillance systems, including Bio-Sense, the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS). 
  • Develops, implements, and maintains underlying components that enable integration of solutions which address cross-cutting CDC or partner objectives. 
  • Oversees the maintenance and modernization of surveillance systems. Develops new surveillance methods, information resources, and promising practices to strengthen public health informatics capacity and capability. 
  • Stays abreast of the latest, cutting edge technologies. Collaborates with external entities, including interagency, partners, academic institutions, and other external entities to inform system enhancements and modernization approaches.”
