Since taking over as Chairman of the Board of Veterans’ Appeals Cheryl Mason has been tasked with addressing the impact of COVID-19 on the future of hearings. Taking steps to fast track virtual hearings, Mason has taken strides to be sure the inability to meet in-person hasn’t hindered the Board’s mission.
About Cheryl Mason
Cheryl Mason serves as the Chairman of the Board of Veterans’ Appeals (Board). She is the first woman to hold his position. Cheryl Mason leads a team of approximately 1200 personnel including Veterans Law Judges, attorneys, and operations and administrative professionals. She is accountable for the management of Board resources and executing a budget of over $190 million.
About the Board of Veterans’ Appeals
The Board of Veterans’ Appeals (Board) is an Agency within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Its mission is to conduct hearings and issue timely decisions for Veterans, their families and caregivers. The Board is responsible for making final decisions on behalf of the Secretary regarding appeals for Veterans’ benefits and services from all three administrations – Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and National Cemetery Administration (NCA) as well as the Office of General Counsel (OGC) that are presented to the Board for appellate review.
