CDC to Award Contract for Privacy-Preserving Record Linkage (PPRL) of Patient-Level Real World Healthcare Data to Advance COVID-19 Response and Other CDC Priorities

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price contract to HealthVerity, Inc.”

“HealthVerity can provide CDC with a large volume (>50 million patients total, including >11 million COVID-19 patients as of Jan 2021) of de-identified, longitudinal, patient-level, real world data (RWD) from up to 20 healthcare data providers that are inter-operable and can be linked with each other using HIPAA-compliant privacy-preserving record linkage (PPRL). The healthcare data sources include medical and pharmacy claims (from both open and closed systems), hospital chargemaster, electronic medical record (EMR), and commercial laboratory data.  Individually, each of these data sources provides a snapshot of an individual’s health status and health care. Linking across data sources at the patient-level using PPRL provides a comprehensive and longitudinal view of individual’s health status and interactions with the healthcare system. This unique and valuable data asset will allow CDC to answer priority questions from the CDC COVID-19 Science Agenda that cannot otherwise be answered without extensive primary data collection and multiple and complex data use agreements and contracts that would not be practical or feasible…”
