CDC to award contract for Data Licensing and Technical Support Services to Cerner

“Description of Services or Supplies:

Vendor will provide quarterly analysis-ready data sets loaded into Client’s Cerner HealtheDataLab environment, and apply appropriate filter criteria to Cerner Real-World Data. They will deliver the data set to include all applicable records from Cerner’s Healtheintent, provide technical support and up to 50 hours of data informatics support during the data analysis phase of the award.”

“Electronic Health Record (EHR) data and software-based platforms to manage medical records from patient visits have become a significant source for health care-related research. Cerner Real-World Data is a deidentified clinical data warehouse comprised of over 89 million patients. Cerner and IQVIA Holdings Inc. are the top two leaders in EHR data access and supportive offerings, with contracts in over 35 countries at more than 27,000 provider facilities, such as hospitals, integrated delivery networks, ambulatory offices, and physicians’ offices, and it is a larger healthcare data source than almost all other EHR vendors…”

“HealtheDataLab is unique to Cerner and is a cloud-based elastic high-performance parallel distributed tool for automated retrieval of data from the HealthyIntent, storage and management of the data, and application of machine learning (ML) and analytic tools. HealtheDataLab uses the AWS, Simple Storage Solution (S3) bucket as an encrypted data lake for storage of structured and unstructured data, and therefore the Amazon tool “Elastic MapReduce” can improve processing time by offering high performance distributed computing. It also integrates several Apache Project Solutions, such as Hive and Spark, and uses Jupyter notebooks to help with the analytic capacity. An added advantage is that the platform offers end-to-end encryption, and is compliant with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).”

“Cerner also offers unique training, deep-dive didactics and general support around the platform, which cannot be sourced elsewhere. This vendor is known specifically for their analytic capacity in the health care EHR space and will offer the advantage of expert advice and close professional support that can improve analytic knowledge and capacity of the CDC-participants that they will be able to translate in their future work…”
