HHS OIG seeking Assistant Inspector General for Investigations

“This position is located in the HHS OIG Office of Investigations (OI), in Washington, DC. OI conducts criminal, civil, and administrative investigations of fraud and misconduct related to HHS programs, operations and employees, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies and law enforcement tools. OI also provides protective services to the Secretary and participates in the HHS continuity of operations program as well as a full range of public safety and security incident management activities.” 

“Responsibilities 

  • The Assistant Inspectors General for Investigations (AIGI), working under the general direction of the Deputy Inspector General for Investigations (DIGI), comprise the OI executive leadership team through which day-to-day OI operations are carried out. As AIGI, you will assist the DIGI in establishing OIG’s investigative priorities, evaluating the progress of investigations, and reporting to the Inspector General. You will provide leadership, direction, and guidance to Special Agents in Charge who carry out investigative activities in their assigned geographic area or program portfolio.”

“Other duties include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Oversee investigations of HHS program related fraud, including Medicare and Medicare fraud, grant and contract fraud; 
  • Oversee sensitive and complex investigations into alleged misconduct by OIG and Department employees, reviews completed reports of investigations to ensure accuracy and compliance with guidelines; 
  • Ensure that all aspects of training, including policy, procurement, coordination, internal development and oversight are completed for all OI employees; 
  • Ensure the desired goals of the OI law enforcement function are achieved with respect to: firearms and their proper usage; control tactics; training and appropriate use of audio and video electronic monitoring equipment and the research and procurement of law enforcement related equipment; 
  • Coordinate special investigations, studies and analyses: with respect to OIG responsibilities and serves as liaison with other Federal, State and local agencies; 
  • Responsible for providing overall objectives, resources and policy guidelines for: information technology resources, programs to retrieve and analyze computer-based forensic evidence, programs to ensure the efficiency and economy in the OIG’s Hotline program and OI’s management information systems; 
  • Provide executive oversight for the budget formulation and execution for OI headquarters and field operations. Additionally, the AIGI monitors all hiring and personnel procedures as well as the creation of new national field offices; 
  • Represent the DIGI at policymaking conferences with other Department officials, other Federal agencies and/or professional organizations; and 
  • Provide leadership and direction in the absence of other key leadership positions to include any responsibilities for other AIGIs within OI, as designated by the DIGI or acting DIGI.”
