“Vice Adm. Bono, the first female Navy medical officer to achieve three-star rank, retired after four decades in military medicine and health care administration. As the head of DHA from 2015 to 2019, she led a joint agency with significant responsibilities for the delivery of integrated, affordable, and high-quality health services to uniformed, reserve, and retired military personnel and their families. She also helped drive synergy of clinical and business processes across the $50 billion Military Health System. She received her medical degree from the School of Medicine at Texas Tech University’s Health Sciences Center and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
