FDA RFI: Decision Support Risk Targeting System

Solicitation: FDA-RFI-1225598

The purpose of this RFI is to broaden FDA’s understanding of the market’s capability, either as solutions requiring potential development of a technology or existing commercially-available applications, to provide a Decision Support System (DSS) utilizing big data.

FDA receives large quantities of product and product-associated information and, upon receipt, a best course of action needs to be decided to protect public health.  Legacy systems handling these data are generally siloed and limited, with the creation of interfaces or expansions time-consuming.  Given advancing technologies, it is sought to transition to more flexible decision support systems capable of handling big data while still supporting the general operational processes in place.

A decision support system is needed that has the following capabilities:

  • Inputs and warehouses structured and unstructured big data streams from both private and public data sources

Includes decision support features:

  • application development and data sharing via application programming interfaces (API)
  • data analysis
  • forecasting
  • decision tree analysis
  • performance metrics
  • rules-based workflow
