MeriTalk: VA OIG: Early Software Problems Hurt Forever GI Bill Rollout

“The Department of Veteran Affairs’ (VA’s) Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) failure to modify its electronic systems to fully support the Forever GI Bill hampered efforts to implement the law early in the process and continue to the present day, according to a VA Office of the Inspector General (OIG) report released today.”

“The Forever GI Bill, which was signed into law in January 2018, expands education benefits for veterans and servicemembers, as well as their families and survivors.”

“Last November, however, 13 members of Congress requested OIG to investigate allegations that the VA planned to withhold retroactive payments for missed or underpaid monthly housing stipends that it failed to pay while implementing the Forever GI Bill…” Read the full article here.
