VSO’s petition for more money to support EHRM and for VA to appoint a VHA CIO

“A coalition of veterans service organizations says the government needs money and personnel to successfully handle the VA’s transition from VistA to the Cerner EHR.”

“In their proposed agenda for the 116th Congress, the groups urge the legislature to fund VistA’s continued development until the Cerner EHR is fully sustained and that it give the VA-DoD Interagency Program Office the power it needs to make key decisions.”

“Shifting to the executive branch, the letter asks the VA to staff up its EHR modernization office with qualified staff and appoint a chief information officer at the Veterans Health Administration.”

“The report notes that the VA has said its EHR will be “identical” to the DoD pilot phase, which it says raises concerns that the VA doesn’t recognize the wholly different roles of the VA and Pentagon medical systems…” Read the full newsletter here.
