House Appropriations Committee approves $65M in EHR funding for VA

Veterans Affairs: The House Appropriations Committee approved spending for Veterans Affairs Thursday, and the administration’s initial request for $65 million for EHR replacement was approved – with an asterisk. The department can’t spend more than a quarter of the money until the VA gives House and Senate appropriations committees:

  • an explanation of the solicitation it sent to Cerner
  • an explanation of how it would replicate the DOD’s EHR system, plus an explanation of how it would achieve interoperability
  • a strategic plan for rolling out the EHR
  • a plan for maintaining and transitioning from current systems”
